Pinhole glasses The user looks through any of the many small holes in the material. These holes reduce the different width of the beam (called a “pencil of light”) coming from each point of the object being viewed. Normally, a full pupil opening lets in light. It is the incorrect bending of the most distant rays in this pencil of light that causes refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia (farsightedness), presbyopia (reduced focal range with age) and astiatism. Pinholes can provide clearer vision in all of these conditions. By blocking these peripheral rays and allowing only those rays that pass through the central part of the pupil into the eye, refractive errors of the lens or cornea are not noticed as much. The pupil may be wide open, but only the central part receives light. The improvement in visual acuity can be amazing. A lasting effect can be achieved after 6 weeks of regular use. Start wearing from a few minutes every day and increase to 2-3 hours a day. Caution: Do not use while driving, cycling, etc., or other activities where close inspection is important.
